“Velvet Reverie” - A duet that aims to inspire a challenge of the heart for the musicians. Soaring lines, introspective melodic motifs, and harmony that begs for an intentionally sweet tonality from the individual. 2024 was an interesting year for me in the world of composition. As I’m getting to know myself as a writer, I’ve had the privilege to meet incredible people along the way. This person in particular that inspired and commissioned the creation of this piece, is a monster euphonium player, a hell of an educator, and an overall good man. It is none other than Dr. Joey Bello; band director at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. This piece commemorates our young, but meaningful friendship and it represents a yearning for that friendship to grow and stand the test of time.
